Notes for Stage 1 Applicants

Before Starting the Application

Please read this document carefully before completing the Stage 1 Application Form for a Research Grant from the Abbeyfield Research Foundation. Whilst we operate an electronic submission system, it is still recommended that all Stage 1 applicants use the list below to ensure that all information relevant to their application has been read and/or submitted as appropriate. This will give all individuals the best chance of success at this stage.

  • Terms and Conditions of Grant - All terms and conditions need to be checked.
  • Notes for Stage 1 Applicants Notes for applicants should be read thoroughly and will help ensure applications are successfully submitted.

Completing the Online Application Form

When filling in our online application form, please take care to ensure that the information provided fits into the allocated box, and that you adhere to word limits where appropriate. This is to ensure that pages of the form do not overrun.

Some sections are mandatory and in this case you will not be able to proceed to the next section of the site without their completion. The online form will warn you which field you have missed.

If there are more than 5 co-applicants please contact us and we will provide an alternative method of submitting additional co-applicant details.

Once you have completed your form, your application will be given a unique reference number. It is important that you note this in your records and ensure that all correspondence with the Foundation includes your reference number.

Submitting the Application

Applications are submitted electronically through our online forms. This can be accessed through the Foundation’s website at http://www.abbeyfieldresearchfoundation.org

Signatures and paper copies are not required on the electronic submissions at Stage 1.

General

  1. Prior to submitting a Stage 1 application, applicants should check that their proposed application falls within the remit of the Foundation. This is described in the charity’s research objectives.
  2. The Foundation has a two stage application process. The Stage 1 application form can be downloaded from the Foundation’s website.
  3. The deadline for receipt of Stage 1 initial applications is 5pm on the 19th of January. Applications received after this date may be rejected.
  4. Successful applicants at Stage 1 will be notified mid February and invited to complete a Stage 2 full application.
  5. We regret that, due to the volume of applications, no feedback will be given to unsuccessful applicants at Stage 1.
  6. The deadline for submission of Stage 2 applications is 5pm on the 4th of May.
  7. Any changes to the timings detailed in this document will be notified on the website when Stage 2 application forms are posted.
  8. Stage 2 applications will be subject to external peer review and will be considered at the Research Grants Committee meeting that will be held mid July.
  9. Successful applications will be notified after approval at the end of July.
